With over 120 clubs nationwide, Gala Bingo has dominated the offline bingo industry for over 30 years. Now, however, the bright yellow and blue brand that we know and love will be getting a rebrand.
Industry veteran, John Kelly, has been recruited as non-executive chairman for Gala Leisure who are in the midst of a two-year £40 million overhaul.
Mr Kelly said: “I believe we have a strong strategic plan and a strong team, led by Chris Matthews, and that he will lead this company to success in the future.”
The clubs are to be renamed to Buzz Bingo in an effort to appeal to a younger audience. The new name has debuted at the Peterborough and Castleford sites and is to be rolled out across the country in the coming months.
Why Buzz? According to the company, which is backed by Caledonia Investments, the new name was chosen after speaking to customers and employees.
Chief executive Chris Matthews said: "Our unique relationship with customers will always be considered at the core of our offer. There is a sense of nostalgia for a game of bingo and a sense of fun and community spirit that goes hand in hand.
"It’s that feeling we want to bring to a wider audience through the launch of Buzz Bingo.
